Genes can hand us capacities, dispositions, and physical structure. They cannot hand us Euclidean geometry, liberal institutions, particle physics, or a theory of debugging. Those things exist because culture can store error-correcting processes that are not reducible to instinct.
I use the phrase memetic knowledge creation to point at that zone of human life where criticism and explanation become the engine of progress. Products matter to me largely because they are instruments for amplifying that process.
